ONE of the last dairy herds in East Hampshire is about to be sold after farm manager Peter Kirby admitted he is being driven out by the supermarket giants who have made it impossible for him to continue milk production.

Newton Valence Farm, near Selborne, where Mr Kirby has been manager for 30 years, will see the last of its herd going off to market in November ending its 60 years of dairy farming.

He admits it will be a "very sad" day both for him and the staff and it will also mean his herdsman Toby Stone will lose his job.

"But what can you do when it costs me 32p to produce a litre of milk and we get 28p a litre from our processors," asks Mr Kirby.
