DAME Mary Fagan has retired as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire last Thursday, after 20 years of service. She was appointed by the Queen on January 28, 1994, and since then has been instrumental in many significant events enjoyed by the communities of Hampshire. Highlights include the D-Day 50th anniversary commemorations in 1995, the Queen's golden wedding anniversary in 1997, the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002, the International Fleet Review and Trafalgar 200 in 2005, the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, and the 60th anniversary of the coronation in 2013. Most recently, Dame Mary was involved in organising the service at Winchester Cathedral to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. She has received all members of the royal family to Hampshire over the past 20 years, and has been responsible for some 800 royal visits. For full story, see this week's Bordon Herald.
