DANCERS in Headley lined up for a good cause and set in motion a fundraising effort to improve the village hall.

The Headley Line Dancers presented a cheque to Headley Village Hall trustees, having raised £630 from a line-dance evening.

The event, organised by Marguerite Withers, was the first of many planned to raise funds for a drive to improve drainage and the car park. “The trustees need to restore part of the hall’s damp course and to protect the hall from water run-off from the village green,” Neil Hardinge, the chairman of trustees, said.

“The hall will be 100 years old in a few years time and the work is to ensure that it lasts a good few years more.”

The facility is owned and run as a charity by the village on behalf of all Headley parishioners.

Trustees need to raise money from fundraising, but some will come from their own pockets and they also hope to apply for grants to top up the pot.

“We have a lot to do, but we are on the way,” Mr Hardinge added.
