OPEN space campaigners have welcomed East Hampshire District Council's decision to turn down a controversial application by Molson Coors Brewing Company (UK) Ltd to build a junior football hub on the Diggers dogleg at Anstey Park.

The application was part of a two-pronged proposal to relocate Alton Town Football Club from the Coors Sports Ground in Anstey Road, to facilitate redevelopment on the site of a new supermarket.
