A GROUP of 55 walkers and their canine companions enjoyed the sunshine and the views around Old Alresford as they put their best feet and paws forward for charity.

The dog walk was held in aid of family support charity Home-Start Winchester and District (including the Alresford area) and it’s so popular that many walkers attend every year.

There was a choice of walks of different lengths to suit walkers’ fitness levels, but the sharp wind kept everyone on their toes.

“We were delighted that so many people came to join us for a ramble through our wonderful countryside,” said Home-Start Winchester patron Alison Wakeham, who provided her stunning 15th Century barn as the venue for lunch.

After a chilly morning there was a choice of four homemade soups, a ploughman’s and cakes prepared by Jo Tyler and her team, ready to greet the walkers on their return.

Home-Start Winchester vice-chairman Trevor Lewis thanked the organisers, especially those who had walked the walks beforehand to make sure there were no hidden obstacles.

“Above all,” he said, “we must thank our brilliant sponsors Gay Dog Boarding Kennels of Bradley who have not only joined us for the walk, along with their Labrador Nina but also donated a week’s free board for one lucky dog owner.”

The walk raised £770 which will be used to support families struggling with issues such as disability, loneliness, bereavement or mental health problems.
