A Bordon small business has been given a brighter future with the donation of a brand-new piece of 3D printing equipment after a chance meeting at the recent Shed Market.

Local 3D printer and Jonah Meads owner Paul Jones was displaying his 3D models at the Shed’s regular makers’ fair when tech director of 4U2U Group and local businessman Stuart Morrison was passing.

In a brief conversation, Mr Jones revealed his ambition for his 3D-printed creations to be stocked in the soon-to-be-launched Makers’ Market.

Mr Jones said: “My goal was to have enough capacity to produce more of my 3D models and respond to requests for commissions a lot quicker.

“When Stuart stopped by the stall we discussed the Makers’ Market project stocking some of my 3D models.

“Sadly, at the time I lacked the necessary equipment to take that step, but Stuart offered me a 3D printer on the spot. I couldn’t believe it – I thought he was joking!”

Mr Morrison, tech director of the 4U2U Group, local operators and hospitality employers in Bordon, said: “Having worked with a lot of small and start-up business owners, especially over lockdown, I know how even a small measure of support to a small business can make a huge difference.

“I have been at the start-up stage a few times myself and I know how vital every little bit of support can be.

“Supporting local producers is at the heart of what is driving the Makers’ Market and we welcome small businesses coming to us to discuss how 4U2U Group can get involved and help them grow.”

The printer – a state-of-the-art Creality machine – will allow Mr Jones to grow his business with increased production facilities and he’s hoping to attract more attention for his fully-articulated 3D models.

James Child, the project lead at Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, said: “We are pleased to see collaboration between local businesses, especially within the developing town centre.

“It is good to see The Shed creating opportunities for new and small ventures to work with bigger, growing businesses to support further job growth and employment opportunities within the town.”

The Makers’ Market, located within the Shed, Bordon will be opening later this month.
