Britain’s largest European e-bike retailer, Ebikeshop, is launching a pilot scheme in Farnham, allowing people to cycle through the congestion caused by the continuing infrastructure roadworks.
The scheme will demonstrate how e-bikes can be used as an alternative mode of transport to cars.
Ebikeshop sales and operations director Ben Mowbray said: “If you look at areas of Europe in comparison to the UK, the attitude to cycling is very different and people enjoy it.
“In the UK, people worry about cycling on the roads because of the poorly maintained cycle lanes, but also they don’t want to feel hated by people in cars.
“There are plenty of places to park e-bikes and bicycles in Farnham, so why not give it a go while the traffic is bad?
“There is, however, more that could be done by the council to encourage cycling, such as maintaining cycle lanes,” said Mr Mowbray.
Farnham-based ebikeshop.co.uk is showcasing three Orbea leisure e-bikes to illustrate their versatility. Priced at around £4,200 each, the showcased Orbea bikes are designed for varied environments.
Ebikeshop, located at Coxbridge Business Park, has more than 700 bikes in stock at a time.
Customers can also book appointments to visit the Farnham showroom directly.
Each bike is assembled in the downstairs workshop before being shipped or collected. As part of their service, each bike can be repaired or serviced within 48 hours.
E-bike use is significantly more widespread in many European countries compared to the UK. For example, in Germany and the Netherlands, e-bikes make up 50 percent of all new bikes sold.
E-bikes offer a rechargeable battery that provides assistance to the rider's pedalling. The electric power makes cycling easier and more efficient.
