THE South Alton Plan got off to a rocky start last Thursday when Alton Town Council voted unanimously to object to all three parts of this hybrid proposal, on grounds that it was premature. Councillors voted unanimously against the application, believing it should be put on ice to await the results of the impending Alton Traffic and Transport Study. Being carried out by Hampshire County Council and East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), the long-awaited study will look at the transport infrastructure and traffic management requirements of the town as a whole, needed to support the proposed level of housing development Alton is expected to take to the year 2028. Expected in October, the results of the study were felt to be of paramount importance to any decision making process, particularly in the case of the South Alton Plan.
