ALTON College student Tom Andrews has been selected to represent the UK at Worldskills in Russia later this year in the electronics discipline.

Tom is in his last year of the Foundation Degree in Engineering, studying at Alton College and undertaking work with Sonardyne International Ltd.

He joins a group of the country’s best and brightest young skilled people heading to Kazan.

The team from sectors including engineering, hospitality, construction, IT and more will fly to Russia in August to compete in the competition known as the ’Skills Olympics’. They will face counterparts from more than 60 countries in 56 disciplines.

"I am really excited about the prospect of heading to Russia in the summer, and already looking forward to the training trip to Finland which is coming up soon," he said.

"I am proud to be able to represent the country and grateful to Alton College and Sonardyne for the help and support they have given me to get to this point."
