MEDSTEAD Primary School welcomed back one of their house heroes, Mandy Hickson, into school to officially open their new all-weather running track.

Former RAF jet pilot Mandy cut the ribbon across the multi-purpose track which was created earlier this year.

The running track was funded by government Sports Premium money and will benefit all children in school across the curriculum.

It is now being used every day during playtime, lunchtime, in lessons and at after school clubs.

Before opening the new track, Mandy spoke to the children about her latest fundraising effort which involved climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the new Winchester hospice.

She encouraged the children to keep fit and healthy by using their new track and then proceeded to run a few laps with the children and staff.
