A European-themed bake-off was held at Eggar’s School in Holybourne to help Ukrainian refugees.

Biscuits and slices of cakes designed and baked by pupils – and Olha Shekovtsova, a Ukrainian mother-of-two currently living in Alton – were sold during break to eager classmates, after house points were awarded to the prize winners.

Archie took first prize with his Colosseum cake featuring chocolate walls. Second prize went to Adele, while Pippa and Raphy were third with a cake which had the colours of the Spanish flag in the icing and throughout the cake.

Sam Sumner, the assistant curriculum leader for modern foreign languages who organised the sale, said: “We were blown away by the students’ contributions and are pleased to have raised over £250 for the Ukraine-Alton Mutual Aid appeal.”
