Elstead Football Club is “delighted” the parish council has accepted its proposal to refurbish the old changing rooms at Burford Lodge Recreation Ground.

A club spokesman said: “This building has been boarded up for several years and this project will not only provide much-needed toilet and changing facilities for the adult football teams during training sessions and pre-season matches, but it will also rid the village of the ugly neglected eyesore.”

The project will be community led with work carried out on a voluntary basis by tradespeople associated with the football club.

The roof was made watertight by Dave Cheeseman Roofing & Lead Work Specialists Ltd and all electrical work will be carried out by club sponsor The Elstead Electrician.

The spokesman added: “Many Elstead residents have shown support for this project so we hope to return this old sports building back to something Elstead can be proud of.”

Elstead FC was established more than 110 years ago and plays in the Guildford & Woking Alliance Football League.
