THE ALLEN Gallery in Alton hosts Dawn to Dusk, a new exhibition of work by artist
WH Allen, until March 19.

William Herbert Allen’s career stretched from the 1880s to the 1940s. Art master and later director at Farnham School of Art, he painted thousands of countryside pictures in southern England and Europe.

Annual exhibitions of his watercolours and oils take place in the Allen Gallery, named in his honour after the bequest of his works to the Curtis Museum in 1979. This year’s captures the changing light and atmosphere of the rural landscape from sunrise to sunset.
