Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) is celebrating The Great Big Green Week, which runs from June 10 to 18, by organising, collaborating on and collating a timetable of events from walks and bike rides, to talks and a free film screening.

The Great Big Green Week is a celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Tens of thousands of people across the UK will be celebrating the heartfelt, everyday actions being taken.

In Petersfield, the week will kick off on June 10 with an 11-mile walk between Midhurst and Petersfield in collaboration with Petersfield Walking Festival, creating a new Slow Ways route in the process.

Slow Ways is an initiative to create a national network of walking routes connecting all towns and cities across the UK. Members and supporters of Midhurst Climate Action Network (MiCAN) will walk from Petersfield to Midhurst, with PeCAN and others walking in the opposite direction. They will meet in the middle for a lunch break!

The day will start with a bus journey to fully celebrate active travel, before travelling the slow, traditional way back home.

That same day, PeCAN and Eco Rother Action are offering a free screening of The Oil Machine; a film that explores our economic, historical and emotional entanglement with fossil fuels and considers how the ‘machine’ might be tamed, dismantled or repurposed.

The event starts at 7pm at the Henry Warren Hall in Nyewood and the screening will be followed by a conversation on our energy future. Contact PeCAN if you would like to lift share from Petersfield.

On Monday, June 12 there will be a home energy event from Petersfield Area SuperHomes in Horndean; Tuesday, June 13 features a jewellery repair café, guided nature walk and bike ride to East Meon; on Wednesday you can discover Petersfield by bike and there is a talk on carbon capture and storage in Rogate; and Petersfield Town Council will host a car boot sale on Sunday, June 18.
