POLICE have named the pedestrian who died in a collision at East Worldham, near Alton, on Friday, July 21.
Choudhry Muhammad Sadaqat, 35, of Weydon Lane, Farnham, died in hospital on July 25, four days after he was hit by an HGV in Green Street – the stretch of the B3004 between Worldham Hill and Kingsley.
At the time of the incident, the Scania lorry involved was heading to the site of the Jalsa Salana, at nearby Oaklands Farm.
Mr Sadaqat’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers, have released the following tribute: “Choudhry was a good son and brother.
“He has left us early to return to his creator. He enjoyed life and was always ready to serve his community.
“He is survived by his mother,
father, brothers and family.”
Speaking of the sadness that had shaken the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who were preparing for the three-day annual convention, their spokesman, Dr Basharat Nazir, said: “Our hearts go out to the family of Sadaqat. We are unable to comment (on rumours circulating about the circumstances surrounding the accident) on
social media; we would much rather let police complete their investigation.”
The driver of the HGV, a 38-year-old man from Tamworth, was arrested in connection with the collision but released. He remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Sgt Mark Furse, of Hampshire Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, on 101, quoting reference: 44170280821.
