Pubs in Upper Farringdon and Lindford are being sold to a new owner by Farnham company New Dawn Pubs.

The Rose and Crown and The Royal Exchange have been acquired by Brakspear, with the sale to be completed on February 1.

The Royal Exchange has undergone two significant refurbishments since being saved from demolition in 2015, becoming a cornerstone of the Lindford community with pub manager Amy Pieri at the helm.

New Dawn said the industry had changed greatly over the last few years and “continues to face significant headwinds and an array of unprecedented challenges”, leading the company to take what it called the “tough decision” to sell the two pubs.

It wanted to find a good new home for them to ensure their continued success, and it is confident that family-owned Brakspear, with 200 years of experience in pubs, will be a “trusted custodian” going forward.

Mark Robson, co-founder of New Dawn Pubs, expressed his gratitude for the significant role The Royal Exchange had played in its business: “The Royal Exchange has been a fantastic part of our collection over the last eight and a half years and a real hub for the local community, just as we believe pubs should be.

“Their success is hugely attributed to the hard-working team who have been the beating heart of the pub. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this gem of a pub and wish Brakspear the best of luck.”

New Dawn still owns three pubs. The company said it was committed to delivering quality food and service, fostering a united and enthusiastic team, and providing exceptional experiences for patrons, while contributing positively to local communities.
