POLICE have arrested five people following a jewellery theft in Alton on December 6.

Three women entered the High Street store between 12.30pm and 12.45pm and asked to look at various items. While the staff were distracted, one of the women is alleged to have stolen a display pad holding 10 rings worth £3,000.

A 34-year-old man, a 56-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, all from Bedfordshire, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft. They have been bailed until January 14 pending further enquiries.
