FLAT Spaces has been awarded a coveted gold gong in the category Access and Inclusivity at the Beautiful South Awards.

Founded in 2013 by Holybourne resident Tom Yendell, the aim of the Flat Spaces Foundation is to build a network of purpose-built bungalows throughout the UK that are designed and fully equipped to enable those with severe disability, their families and carers, to take much needed holidays in the knowledge that their complex needs will be fully catered for.

Flat Spaces joined the cream of the South East’s tourism industry as it celebrated success last week at the Beautiful South Awards – the highlight of the 2017 tourism calendar.

Presented by TV and radio celebrity Toby Anstis and hosted by headline sponsor, the Grand Brighton, the Awards saw 71 prestigious gold, silver and bronze trophies handed out along with 20 highly commended.

Nigel Smith, chief executive of Tourism South East, said: “The awards ceremony reminded me again of the sheer quality of tourism businesses in the South East. All the finalists can be very proud of what they have achieved. I hope their example will inspire others.”

Commenting on the presentation, a delighted Tom Yendell, chairman and founder of Flat Spaces, said: “We are honoured to receive this accolade in only our second year of business. The recognition gives us added impetus to move forward with our plans to open additional Flat Spaces around the country to enable those with more complex physical needs, their families and carers, to enjoy the holidays that most of us can take for granted.”

The aim of the charity is to provide holiday and respite accommodation specifically designed to the highest standards, for the disabled, their carers and families. Each property will be internally identical, while taking on the local style externally, to give the traveller the confidence of knowing exactly what to expect from a Flat Space holiday.
