THE Legends – otherwise known as a group of 12 year six children from Anstey Junior School – paid a visit to the iFLY facility in Basingstoke.
The trip was planned to help pupils learn about the science of air resistance and to provide a thrilling experience to write about back at school.
On their arrival, The Legends attended a wind workshop which involved making a wind-powered car. They split themselves into three teams and soon each team had a unique car made from paper, card, pipe cleaners, bottle tops and lots of parcel tape.
During the ensuing race, all the children were feeling nervous and competitive. The victorious team was Nugget Nation.

My Working Week: Before burnout becomes crisisThe Legends were then briefed on how to stay safe in the flight tunnel. Once they had put on flying suits, goggles and helmets, they were ready to fly. Dan, their instructor, led them into the outer tunnel and one by one they experienced two one-minute ‘flights’. Despite a few nerves, all the pupils took part and cheered each other on.
“It was literally a breath-taking experience!” said one young flier after emerging from the tunnel where he had experienced the feeling of flight while floating on a cushion of air.
An Anstey Junior School spokesman said: “It was a memorable day and will no doubt inspire some excellent writing from the pupils.”
