JAYA Passingham is pictured with The Rowland Owen Trophy, which she won for singing I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables at the Godalming Music Festival.

Jaya, 14, who won a music scholarship for singing to attend Alton School, is a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the Farnham Youth Choir.

In December 2020 she sang Walking In The Air on the Christmas special of BBC1 comedy King Gary.

She was awarded a commendation certificate for her singing at the Surrey Festival for Musical Theatre and achieved a distinction in her Grade 6 ABRSM Singing for Musical Theatre examination.

Jaya, who lives in Four Marks, played Jan in Alton School’s production of Grease. After a successful audition, she played a Lost One in 13 performances of Peter Pan at the Mast Mayflower Studios in Southampton last Christmas.

She auditioned for the Surrey Theatre Academy’s production of High School Musical and secured the lead female role of Gabriella Montez.

Her mother Ashu Passingham said: “Jaya has been singing since the age of seven. Out of school her life is consumed with singing, dancing and acting. Every day she does something.

“I think she would absolutely love to go into musical theatre as a career. That’s kind of the dream.”
