NEARLY 200 people filled the Church of St Lawrence last Sunday (April 24) for the commissioning of Kate Powell – the fourth Anna Chaplain in Alton – by the Bishop of Basingstoke.

Anna Chaplaincy meets the pastoral and spiritual needs of older people. It was started by the Anglican and Methodist churches in Alton ten years ago and there are now 220 Anna Chaplains in the country.

The Right Reverend David Williams, Bishop of Basingstoke, said: “Anna Chaplaincy is an innovative and creative partnership from Alton to the ends of the earth. Anna Chaplaincy has so much to offer to older people everywhere and Alton should be proud to have been the pioneer behind its success.”
