THERE will be an opportunity to find out more about the ancient Chinese arts of Tai Chi and Quigong on Saturday, April 30.
Originally developed as a martial art in 13th-century China, Tai Chi is today practised around the world as to improve health and well being.
Studies have shown that Tai Chi can help people aged over 65 to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility, increase muscle strength in the legs, co-ordination, mobility and to help relieve stress.
Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intentions.
East Hampshire leisure learning’s Tai Chi tutor Sue Kelly, will be celebrating World Tai Chi and Qigong Day on Saturday, April 30, with a free open-to-all-ages session, that will take place from 10am to 11am in Alton’s Public Gardens.
There will also be a demonstration of Tai Chi for pre-school children, with ACA Pre-school.
World Tai Chi Day began in 1999 to introduce people to the many benefits to learning Tai Chi or Qigong as a means of improving balance, .
Either can be practised standing or seated so is an ideal form of exercise for all levels of fitness.
There will also be an opportunity to find out more about the classes Sue Kelly runs for East Hampshire Leisure Learning.
