A leisure centre in East Hampshire is hosting a series of water safety workshops in aid of Drowning Prevention Week from June 18 to 25.

Alton Sports Centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with East Hampshire District Council, will be putting on the free sessions on June 18. From workshops in rookie lifeguarding to water safety and CPR, there are classes for everyone to be able to learn vital skills in the water.

Drowning Prevention Week takes place each June and aims to equip everybody across the UK and Ireland with the skills and knowledge to make the right decisions about water safety.

Adele Dollery, swim manager at Everyone Active, said: “Learning essential water skills is key, no matter your age or ability.

“Our free workshops aim to educate and encourage water confidence to ensure everyone can enjoy the water safely.

“Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, many young people missed out on lessons, which is why this is the perfect opportunity for families and their children to learn more about water safety.

“It’s also coming up to the summer holidays where many families will be venturing to the seaside or choosing to go for a swim in the pool, making it even more important to learn these vital skills.”
