WHITEHILL Town Council voted to confer the honour of Freedom of the Town upon Ultimate Sacrifice Challenge runner Brian Wood in a special meeting on December 16.
Omicron fears meant only the minimum five councillors attended the meeting, but all voted in favour.
A ceremony will be arranged for Brian, who ran 635 miles to honour 635 service personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Council leader Cllr Andy Tree said: “It is a very rare distinction to be awarded and it was last conferred upon REME collectively.
“It is purely honorific and is the highest formal recognition a parish or town council can give.”
