ALTON Town Council has been challenged once again over the “eyesore” that is the former BonBon store on Normandy Street.

In fielding a question, posed by a member of the public during a full council meeting last Wednesday, ward councillor Graham Hill said the town councillor had been trying for many years to get the owner to improve the appearance of the building.

Indeed, there was to be another meeting this week with East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) officers to look further at how to apply pressure on the owner to restore the derelict building.

Alton Matters chairman Tanya Applegarth asked if it would be possible to tidy up the site in the short term by putting up a printed banner facade.
