BUDDING East Hampshire athletes can now apply for funding that could help them get to Tokyo 2020 and beyond thanks to East Hampshire District Council’s Elite Sports Fund.
From September 1 to December 31, people with their sights on the Olympics, Paralympics or the top level of any sport can apply for grants from the Elite Sports Fund of between £50 and £600 to go toward travel, coaching expenses, qualifications, equipment or clothing.
Applicants for the fund must be between 10 and 24 years old, live in the district and be at least county representative standard or equivalent within their sport.
Applications should be fully supported by the coach, club, national governing body or teacher of the applicant, and also include any other additional information that would support the grant application.
Everyone who applies for a grant will also be considered for the 2017 East Hampshire Sports Awards.
Julie Butler, the district council’s portfolio holder for customer service, said: “Becoming an elite sportsperson takes thousands of hours and years of dedication.
“East Hampshire District Council recognises how important additional support can be and the Elite Sports Fund is our way to contribute to local sporting success.
“I urge East Hampshire’s elite sportspeople to get their applications in to the council as soon as they can so they can take advantage of the fund.”
