BROADLANDS Group Riding for the Disabled in Medstead has put out an SOS for funding to help them survive the coronavirus lockdown.

The charity provides invaluable therapy through its horses to disabled people - all supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

In an effort to protect both participants and volunteers the group has decided to suspend all activities until further notice.

Group chairman Nigel Hoppitt told the Herald: "We support and work with many people who are more vulnerable to infection, so we have made the difficult decision to close our doors until the situation improves.

"This comes at a big price for us, as without riders we do not have an income.

"Our loyal ponies still need feed, hay and to see a farrier - possibly even care from the vets, which all adds up. With no clear idea of when we will be able to start activities again it is difficult to know if we will have enough money to support our horses until riding resumes."

Broadlands currently has ten horses who support 45 riders each week.

In issuing a plea for help, Mr Hoppitt said that while £5 would buy a bale of hay, £89 would care for a pony for a week and £355 for a month.
