ALTON’S annual ‘Glamfest’ brought “vinyl, glitter and glam” to Alton Community Centre on Saturday.

A lively crowd of glam rockers donned wigs, sparkling gear and platforms for a night when they could, quite literally, “let their hair down”.

The Amery Street centre rocked as revellers danced for four solid hours to the sounds of Sweet, Slade, T Rex, Alice Cooper and David Bowie, to whom the evening was dedicated. And it was music played on original vinyl by Glamaster DJ Ian and The Time Machine Disco.

Now in its ninth year, Glamfest was the idea of Ian Urquhart, of Alton Glamrockers, as a way of raising money for the centre and to provide an opportunity for people who like this genre of music to come together to relive the era.

This year, £310 was raised for the centre, bringing the total so far to £3,500 in nine years.

Next year will be the 10th anniversary of this popular event and the aim, according to the organisers, Ian and Diane Urquhart, will be to make it “the best yet” and to try to raise £1,000 on the night. The date has yet to be finalised, according to Mr Urquhart.

Centre manager Maria Elliott expressed grateful thanks to the Urquharts for once again organising the event and to everyone who attended.
