WATCHED by a crowd of members and friends, Worldham Golf Club’s new men’s captain, Alan Maskell, and ladies’ captain, Joanne Wilson, went “straight down the middle” when they drove from the first tee during the annual “changeover” ceremony.

Ian Hogg, the new senior’s captain, also got in a good first drive, as did retiring club captain Derek Thayre, outgoing ladies’ captain Judith Evans and retiring seniors captain Gordon Hunt.

Although the course was a “little damp” being December, the weather was good as they and other members enjoyed a round of golf before joining everyone in the bar for a Christmas sing song.

During the evening, Mr Thayre presented the £7,800 he raised during his year as club captain to representatives of his chosen charities – Bushy Leaze School in Alton and Cri-De-Chat, where victims of the disease suffer from chromosome deficiency.
