HAMPSHIRE County Council has agreed a programme of speed-limit changes, subject to public consultation, on 48 sections.
Among them are the A339, A31, A32, A272, A325, and the B3349 in the Alton area.
In giving his approval at a meeting on Tuesday, county council executive member for environment and transport Mel Kendal based his decision on a review of speed limits on all A and B roads maintained by the county – 292 routes and 780 miles of road.
Mr Kendal said: "Roads are the arteries that keep our economy going and it is important that people can safely travel on them to go about their day-to-day business.
"Road safety is a priority for the county council."
