Hart Male Voice Choir will give its Christmas concert at All Saints Church in Odiham on December 3 at 7pm.

This jovial evening of Christmas songs and carols will be in support of the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice care service for adults and their families living with cancer or another terminal illness in west Surrey and north-east Hampshire.

The choir is enthusiastic about the work that Phyllis Tuckwell does and the important care that the team provides for people when they most need it.

In 1975 the choir was formed at the Chequers pub in Crookham Village by five men who just loved to sing.

Landlord Dan offered his lounge bar for rehearsals, a few glasses of beer were drunk and the choir was launched.

The chequers board from the pub sign sits proudly at the centre of the choir badge.

Since then the choir has grown in size and popularity throughout the UK and in Europe – it has toured Germany, Holland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden and Scotland.

It has raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities while giving men who enjoy singing both camaraderie and the thrill of public performance.

It will lift spirits and bring festive cheer under music director Kevin Jacot, enjoying his sixth year with the choir.

For tickets, priced £12 (under-12s free), visit www.hartmvc.org.uk, Phyllis Tuckwell shops or Katharine Jane Gifts in Odiham High Street.
