JAY DODDS, who has organised one of the biggest collection points in Haslemere for Ukraine with Alisa Morrison, has big plans to keep supporting the war-torn country.

The main collection point is at the Swan Inn – which has been inundated with huge amounts of donations.

Jay, who moved to Haslemere only last year, said: “I reached out to the mayor, Simon Dear, and said I wanted to do more to help Ukraine.

“We are working with Hope and Aid Direct to get the Swan Inn donations to where they need to go.

“Unique Physique Gym also kindly took donations for us, and I would like to thank Ollie Beard.

“There has been some fake news circulating about donations being dumped on the Ukrainian border, but speaking to people on the ground this absolutely is not the case.

“People are desperately in need of donations, and we’re not stopping here.

“Going forward, I would like to organise some fundraising events in Haslemere to support Ukraine.”

A number of other fundraisers have taken place across Haslemere to support Ukraine.

CYC:D fitness studio in Haslemere made all its studio sessions and bootcamps free of charge last Friday (March 4).

In exchange for the free sessions, people were asked to donate to a Unicef JustGiving page for Ukraine.

There was also a donation box at the studio reception.

The JustGiving page has raised more than £1,000 and the cash donation box raised more than £60.

CYC:D studio manager Naomi Heatley said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our amazing CYC:D community, who like us feel pretty helpless in this humanitarian crisis happening in Ukraine.

“Being able to support in this way might be small, but we know it’s going to help in some way.”

A donation point has also been set up for Ukraine at the main Tesco superstore in Haslemere.

Tesco has pledged to match every £1 donated by customers in its stores, up to £1 million.
