HASLEMERE’s much-loved community centre has opened its doors once again.
The Haslewey Community Centre, located opposite Lion Green, re-opened its doors to the community last Monday (July 6) following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
Speaking ahead of the opening, Haslewey manager, Kerry Morgan-Jeffs said: “It will be wonderful to see some of our lovely regulars again.
“We will be offering three scrumptious daily specials – a two course lunch with a hot drink for just £7.70, together with sandwiches and jacket potatoes with a delicious selection of fillings.”
The community centre cafe opening times will be 11am to 2pm from Monday to Friday initially, with precautionary measures put in place in the centre.
“New dividers for the requisite social distancing will be on-site in the Wey Terrace Café, which will mean capacity in the cafe will reduce from 60 to 38 people,” Kerry said.
“Instead of acrylic, the dividers will be latex foam – the brainwave of Treloen at local company See Signs – with unique photographs printed on each side.
“Whilst doing a vital job we hope they will be uplifting, bring colour and a veritable talking point too!
“In good weather there will be seating in the garden providing an extra three tables of one family group on each.”
The popular in-house podiatrist, reflexologist, hairdressing salon and post office opened their doors on the Monday – the rooms having received a significant upgrade during lockdown.
Kerry said: “We wanted to have something positive for hirers and users to come back to and enjoy, using the lockdown period as valuable time to put a lick of paint over tired rooms and enhance some of the lighting and floor areas.”
She said: “We have been so lucky to have received amazing support in the form of donations from local companies and organisations and individuals including The Remarkable Studio, Haslemere Community Rugby Club & Penny Ha’Penny Trust to name but a few.
“With hard work and support, we can come through the pandemic having learnt valuable lessons and in the hope of returning to the vibrant meeting place we all enjoy. Please come back and visit Haslewey for activities, treatments, lunch or just a sociable coffee,” said Kerry.
“Help us bounce back into business and make Haslewey the hub of Haslemere again!”
