PLANS to enhance the forecourt of Alton railway station will be thrown open to the public this month.

The station is a key gateway to the town and to the South Downs National Park and will be enhanced to make it a “more attractive entry point to the town”.

Plans include improvements to pedestrian and cycle access, clear signage for bus services, and a review of parking arrangements in the town.

East Hampshire District Council is working with South West Trains, Hampshire County Council and Alton Town Council on the project and is looking for feedback on the plans from the public.

People can comment on the proposals at Alton Assembly Rooms next Wednesday, September 28, from 3.30pm-8.30pm.

Plans for the scheme will be on display at Alton station and on the East Hampshire District Council website at easthants.gov.uk/

altonstationconsultation from next Monday, September 26.

Comments are welcome until October 12 via the website.

District councillor Dean Phillips, portfolio holder for Alton, said: “The forecourt of the Alton train station is often the first impression that visitors have of Alton or even of the South Downs National Park and it is important we make that impression a good one.

“The proposed improvements will really help to enhance the station forecourt area as a key entry point into the town and we are really keen to hear the views of residents.

“Please come along to the exhibition or visit the website and have your say.”
