Swimmers, walkers and cyclists from Headley formed a triathlon team who competed in different places but celebrated together at the King Alfred statue in Winchester.

So far they have raised £3,891 for The Kings Arms youth charity, based in Alton and Petersfield. Their target was £2,500, enough to fund an after-school club for a year, but they now hope to reach £4,000.

The swim was the 13km Thames Marathon from Henley to Marlow on August 14. On September 17 walkers and cyclists aged 22 to 56 tackled the South Downs Way to Winchester, leaving Cocking and Butser Hill at different times.

Spokesperson Janet Wood said: “The plan was to co-ordinate our finish at the King Alfred statue at 5pm, and amazingly the plan worked! The cyclists came in first and Jane and Jonny hobbled in at just after 5pm, having walked the full 60km. They met swimmer Donna, who came eighth in her age group in four and a half hours, and representatives of The Kings Arms.”
