A pork idol has been crowned as a sizzling event in the heart of Farnham has raised a tasty sum for local charities.

Glasses have been raised for the Farnham Lions as their recent Cider and Sausage Festival on Gostrey Meadow has raised nearly £10,000 for a host of good causes.

The biennial event was another outstanding success with hundreds of people coming together for a day of great food drink and entertainment.

But there was also plenty at steak with the ever-popular Sausage of the Festival Competition attracting an offal lot of interest from food lovers and revellers.

The grill and competition soon heated up with Morgans, A Turner, Hands of Rowledge and 2024 winners Farnham Family Butchers vying for this year’s title.

And the holders once again produced the best bangers with the public casting their votes in a blind tasting.

The festival included activities for children aged 12 and under, with Jake teaching circus skills in his tent and some talented Farnham youngsters performing on stage.

But for older visitors, it was all about the food and drink with the Lions Cider Tent featuring an incredible 22 varieties from dry to sweet and sparkling to still.

Entertainment included fantastic performances by The TR5s and headliner Kit Trigg while Badshot Lea FC and Farnham Rugby Club were also stars, as they ran competitions in both sports on the day.

And thanks to the “incredible support” of sponsors, volunteers, performers, vendors and attendees, the festival raised £9,900 for local charities.

“We would like to extend their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making the festival such a memorable occasion,” said a spokesperson for the Lions.

“The generosity and support shown throughout the day will help make a meaningful difference to a number of local charitable causes.”
