A FORMER sub-postmistress convicted of false accounting after problems with the Post Office Horizon computer system left her owing £36,000 can have her case reviewed.

Jo Hamilton, sub-postmistress at South Warnborough from 2003 to 2005, was taken to court in 2008 accused on 14 counts of false accounting – which she claims was due to errors on the computer system that she was unable to rectify.

Instead of offering support, according to Mrs Hamilton, the Post Office pointed the finger of suspicion at her, deducting any shortfall from her wages in payments she claims not to have taken but which the computer had wrongly recorded.

Hers is one of more than 100 cases in which sub-postmasters and mistresses have, in some cases, been hauled before the courts and jailed for what they claim to be a fault with the Horizon computer system, used by the Post Office to administer its finances.
