ALRESFORD and District Horticultural Society holds its annual show in September.

It will be run as part of Alresford Agricultural Show at Tichborne Park on September 1.

Last year, the horticultural society show attracted more than 500 entries, and organisers hope to top that number this year with classes as diverse as carrots and crochet.

Cups and trophies are awarded for experts and novices in most sections, including fruit and vegetables, dahlias, floral art and, of course, the longest runner bean!

Alresford and District Horticultural Society spokesman Shireen Coghlan said: “Check your garden now, you may have some great-looking tomatoes, perfect courgettes or an interesting misshapen vegetable. Can you find six kinds of herbs to pick or have you grown a chilli plant? There are classes for all of these.”

And she added: “The popular culinary section also has a wide range of classes. You don’t even have to be able to bake. Jars of jam and pickles are included in this section.

“Whether you’d like to show off your gardening skills with vegetables and flowers you’ve grown yourself or display your abilities in photography, design or the culinary arts, there’s sure to be a section in the schedule to interest you. There are even special classes for children.”

The show is open to anyone and schedules are available online at alresfordhorticultural.org or in person from D&G Hardware, 13 Broad Street, Alresford.
