DEVELOPER Crest Nicholson was left red-faced recently after sending out promotional material that seemed unsure about which county Alton was actually in.

Promoting its Ackender Hill development, Crest Nicholson said the upcoming homes were “the opportunity you have been waiting for in Surrey”.

It then went on to list the address of the new homes as Ackender Hill, “Chawton Park Road, Alton, Surrey”.

While there is a village in Staffordshire called Alton, Surrey does not have a single Alton on the map. Chawton Park Road, Alton is situated in Hampshire.

Crest Nicholson will build 280 homes on the former Lord Mayor Treloar Hospital site.

The developer has been approached for comment.
