I was deeply saddened to learn of the untimely death of Janet Maines.
I had the privilege of working with Janet in my role as headteacher of Hale School. She was a proactive and dedicated school governor who was passionate about the local community and providing new opportunities for families and young people.
Her tireless optimism, together with a knack for bringing together those who could make a difference, resulted in many new projects across the town becoming a reality, including the Hale Community Centre and the Hale Surestart Children’s Centre, which both continue to provide excellent and much-needed support for local residents.
Janet was a busy lady with a full diary of commitments, but together with Victor she would make it a priority to attend school and community events.
I remember her always giving the children and staff an enthusiastic wave at both the Farnham and Hale Carnivals.
We have lost a true advocate of the town and she will be sorely missed.
