THE director of music at St Andrew’s Parish Church in Farnham, Stephen Lacey, will perform the church’s last lunchtime organ recital of the year on Tuesday, December 8.
Born in West Byfleet in 1957, Stephen began his musical career studying the piano from the age of seven. He became a chorister at St Andrew’s Church in Frimley Green and had organ lessons with Ken Sergeant.
He progressed to the Royal College of Music where he studied organ with John Birch and piano with Ruth Gerald, gaining an Associateship in 1978.
He subsequently became organist and choirmaster at Holy Trinity Church, Hawley, and in 1982 moved to Frensham as organist. Stephen has been at St Andrew’s since 1998.
His programme will start with JS Bach’s Sinfonia to Cantata no 29 followed by the Chorale Prelude-Sleepers Awake.
It will include Brahms, Rawsthorne, the Toccatina for flutes by P Yon, Fanfare by P Whitlock, The Swan from Carnival of the Animals concluding with Sortie in B flat by Lefebure-Wely.
‘Music while you Munch’ is free of charge. Starting at 1pm the recital will last about 45 minutes.
Homemade soup, tea or coffee are available and any donations go towards the organist’s expenses. All are welcome.
