Author Christopher Herbert will give a talk entitled Jane Austen's Favourite Brother at Alton Library on August 30 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

It is being held alongside the Two and a Half Centuries of Austen exhibition provided by Jane Austen's House which is at Alton Library until September 1.

Christopher Herbert will talk about his book Jane Austen's Favourite Brother - a biography of Henry Austen.

Henry was born into a large and lively clergy family in Hampshire. Of her seven siblings, Henry most shared Jane’s mischievous wit and way with words, and his support enabled the publication of her novels.

By turns he was an academic, magazine editor, soldier, financier and banker, bankrupt and clergyman.
