ALTON Lions have funded a second defibrillator for the town, which has been installed at the entrance to Alton Community Centre and is accessible day and night.

A lifesaving device, a defibrillator gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

Clear instructions are printed on the front of the cabinet defibrillator, next to a key-pad for people to follow in the case of an emergency.

Firstly, people should dial 999, then keep calm and follow the instructions.

The defibrillator has been funded through the Alton Lions Supporters Club and has been organised by Lion Sarah O’Donoghue together with Alton Community Centre and East Hampshire District Council, as owner of the building.

Mrs O’Donoghue said: “Alton Lions Club values its supporters very much as they help at events when extra people are needed. Alton Lions Club supporters contribute £1 per month to a monthly draw and while some of this is used for prizes, the majority is used for valuable projects such as the defibrillators.”

The first Lions defibrillator is located next to the entrance to Alton Assembly Rooms in the High Street.

Alton Lions Club s seeks volunteers and new ‘supporters’. People can meet Lions at their monthly craft market in Cross and Pillory Lane, e-mail [email protected], or call 0845 701 8332.
