ALTON Lions have just taken receipt of a range of cakes for Christmas and they are now on sale for charity.

It has become a tradition for Alton Lions to sell specially made cakes for Christmas at their regular craft markets, scheduled to take place on November 12 and December 10 in Cross and Pillory Lane and the Market Square, at Alton’s Yuletide Festival on Sunday, December 4, or direct from the Alton Herald office on the Market Square.

This year’s selection includes the popular small and large iced rich fruit and rum cakes, the large plain rich fruit and rum cake, and the rich fruit and ground ginger cake topped with stem ginger. Prices are held at last year’s levels and all profits will go to support those in need in the community.

Meanwhile, Alton Lions will be out and about in the community this month, as they undertake their annual Christmas house-to-house collection in Alton, Holybourne, and Four Marks.

Starting on Monday, November 14, the collection will continue until Wednesday, November 30. The Lions will be wearing their distinctive tabards and will carry certificates of authorisation.

All money raised will go to providing food and gifts for families living in Alton and the surrounding villages who may have fallen on hard times, and to bring cheer to folk who may be on their own and face a lonely Christmas.
