Built in 1906 as an army school, it served generations of local children and military families, but its early years remain largely undocumented.
The school was part of a two-site system: a Junior School on Station Road and an Infant School on what is now Lamerton Road, used by military children in the mornings and local children in the afternoons.
After the 1944 Education Act, the County Education Authority took over. In 1965, a new Junior School opened in Budds Lane, and the infants moved to Station Road, which later became Barbados House.
