SOUTH West Trains is warning of delays of up to 45 minutes on services into London Waterloo until the end of Tuesday (July 25) following a track defect.
The defect at a set of points on the fast line at Byfleet and New Haw has resulted in the London-bound line between Woking and Surbiton being blocked.
Trains may be delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised as a result. This includes services on the Alton to Waterloo line through Farnham, which will not call at West Byfleet all day.
Disruption is expected to continue until the end of service tomorrow, Tuesday, July 25.
A South West Trains spokesman said: “On Sunday, July 23, our engineering teams were carrying out routine maintenance. They found a fault affecting a set of points in the Byfleet and New Haw area, which allows trains to cross from one line to another.
“The fault also affects trains continuing on the same section of track and therefore the line used by trains running non-stop from Woking to Clapham Junction and London Waterloo has been blocked from Woking to Weybridge.
“Trains normally using this line will be diverted onto the slow line, and this will result in trains taking longer than usual to reach their destination. Some services will cancelled, delayed, or altered.
“We will be working to repair the track defect on Monday night, but the repair will require significant testing. In the event that testing is unsuccessful or that repairs cannot be completed, services on Tuesday, July 25 may also be disrupted.
“We strongly recommend that you check your journey prior to travel.”
Passengers may be entitled to compensation if they experience a delay in completing journeys, but must keep their train ticket and make a note of their journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
