THE ROYAL SCHOOL in Haslemere is celebrating after its Year 10 team were crowned Maths Feast winners in a fierce competition.

The Royal School were up against 15 other teams, including Reed’s, Bedales and Frensham Heights.

Maths teacher Diana Klusch said: “It was a pleasure to see them working together.

“It was a real team effort, all of them working hard and contributing to the victory.

“They were also exposed to new learning, as one of the tasks, estimating pi – where they got full marks – followed the method developed by Archimedes.”

Maths Feast is organised by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme – a government-funded initiative – and is a fun educational challenge for Year 10 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Teams of four students test their maths skills. There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success. Each event takes between two and three hours, and awards are given for good teamwork and for the winning team of each round.
