AA patrol man of the year Max Holdstock was one of a group of riders undertaking a 60-mile cycle from London to Brighton this month.
Coinciding with the final day of National Bike Week, the team of nine riders from the AA took to two wheels to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
The cause is one close to Max, who is taking the challenge one step further by making the journey on a heritage AA bicycle and in the full uniform worn by the first AA patrols in 1905.
Max, from Ropley, explained: “This year I completed the London Lord Mayor’s show on a 1905 AA bicycle in full uniform.
“Someone said to me ‘I bet that’s hard work on a bike like that’ to which I replied ‘no it’s easy, I can ride all the way down to Brighton on this!’
“So me and the AA team thought why not, let’s put together an AA bicycle team and I will put my words where my mouth is!”
He added: “Last year my dad had a heart attack and was very lucky to survive it, so any money that I raise will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.”
Max was accompanied by his brother, Gavin Holdstock, and a team of AA directors including commercial director Mike Lloyd, director of road operations Oliver Kunc, director of AA Janet Connor, head of outdoor transformation Stuart Surridge, senior business change manager Andy Taylor, area manager Dave Dawson, and area manager Nick Bourne.
