ALTON mayor Dean Phillips has issued an open invitation to the public to join him in the Public Gardens on Sunday afternoon for his civic reception.

It will run from 2pm-4pm.

While the event will include invited dignitaries, Mr Phillips wanted to break with convention by inviting the community to come along for a garden party which will offer family entertainment, a bar, and ice creams.

People are asked to bring a picnic.
