DEFENCE Infrastructure Organisation staff in south-east England now have new red and white vehicles, two of which were shown off at Longmoor Camp.

Their livery is designed to show the public and troops that those inside are enforcing Army training safety rules.

Staff have been given high-visibility vests, plus body-worn cameras to deter aggression against them and record illegal activity to identify offenders and provide evidence for prosecutions.

The aim is to cut the number of incidents of people straying into training areas during live firing or acting illegally while ranges are open to the public.

Lieutenant colonel Mark Ludlow, training safety officer (security and access) for the Aldershot Training Area, said: "The impact that illegal incursions have on the training estate is huge.

"Not only does it cause environmental damage, but it can disrupt planned military training activities which can impact on the MoD’s operational capability and readiness.

"We’re hoping that the newly branded vehicles will stand out and act as a deterrent, helping our attempts to better monitor activity and educate people about what they can and can’t do."
